Home Researching Your Trip

There is no substitute for having good information, the more you learn the better your experience.

Often gap year travel involves going to countries, perhaps continents, you’ve never been to before, living or staying in different cultures, eating strange food and mixing with people you’ve never come across before. This is why researching your travels before you go is essential to you settling and minimising any risk of danger; it will also help you know what to expect and have clearer judgement when faced with a strange situation.

Tips for researching your trip

There is no substitute for having good information.

The internet is the ideal place to carry out some research before you embark upon your travels; it’s easy to ‘Google’ the best beaches and activities, where to stay and what beer they drink on the other side of the world.

But what about the bigger picture? CRF strongly recommends you spend some time researching the culture and ways of the countries you are planning to visit, and to find out from experts, or at least people who have been there. Find out what you need to know before setting off, it will make a big difference when you arrive!

Use CRF’s Global Guide to find out specific information about the country/countries you are visiting.

The Global Guide not only suggests the good places to visit and what to do when you get there, but it also provides a list of helpful contacts in each country, along with:

Information about what time of year is best to go.

Helpful websites that give you information on local facilities and authorities.

What areas, foods etc. to avoid and the top personal safety tips specific to that country.

You’ll also discover the latest news from that country, what’s happening politically and socially, what dangers to look out for, what is best to take or leave behind and advice on how to be completely prepared for your trip.

CRF’s Global Guide has been compiled by people all over the world who are familiar with specific countries. We pride ourselves in providing up to date, informative information, useful for anyone travelling abroad for the first time or to an unfamiliar place.
