Travel education and resources for young people

An important part of CRF’s work is to provide educational materials to young people and support teachers in raising awareness about travelling safely.

Our educational programme, which offers free talks to schools and youth groups, is run by Caroline’s brother, Richard Stuttle, who has travelled extensively himself and has completed a tutor training course organised by The Suzy Lamplugh Trust to become a tutor trainer. Richard then tailored a course to educate young people about travelling and foreign cultures. Sally Baker and Rebecca Downes who are both experienced travellers are also fully trained to give presentations to schools/colleges and youth groups about safety for gap year travellers. Both have a wide knowledge of different countries and cultures and are delighted to share their stories and experiences to others considering a gap year. Time of Your Life’ DVD

CRF has produced a DVD, aimed at young people planning to travel during their gap year, called the ‘Time of your Life’.

The ‘Time of Your Life’ is an informative resource about travel safety awareness. Used in schools, it includes supportive information for teachers to encourage classroom discussions about the different aspects of travelling.

The ‘Time of Your Life’ DVD aims to raise awareness of the potential dangers you might come across while travelling. It also offers tips and advice on how to stay safe.
Featuring Neighbours’ star Blair McDonough (screen character Stuart Parker), the ‘Time of Your Life’ DVD depicts different scenarios and demonstrates the best way to handle potentially difficult or dangerous situations.
The DVD was filmed on location in Australia and includes interviews with various young backpackers who talk about the different cultures they’ve come across and experiences they’ve had.

Travelling Safe: The 'Time of your Life’ Teachers’ Resource Pack

CRF provides a resource pack for teachers about travelling safely, which includes the ‘Time of Your Life’ DVD and an accompanying discussion guide. The guide and DVD are designed to be used together during a timetabled lesson, in which pupils can share and discuss their reactions and opinions to the different topics raised throughout the film. There are deliberate pauses between scenes in the DVD to encourage such discussions.

We have trained and are continuing to train young people across the UK to facilitate discussions in schools using the ‘Time of Your Life’ DVD and continue our educational awareness programme as widely as possible. If you’d like to get involved or are interested in hearing more about the ‘Time of Your Life’  guide and how to introduce it into a school or youth programme near you, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
