Fire safety tips for travelers

Take with you or buy abroad a smoke detector
When staying in a Hotel or Hostel look for 2 escape routes from your room as the nearest may be blocked
Ask if the Hotel or Hostel has a current Fire Certificate or similar
Always leave the building if the Fire Alarm sounds it may not be a False Alarm
Keep valuables Passport, etc close at hand in case you need to leave quickly

80% of people that die in fires die from smoke inhalation

If trapped in a fire go to the window open it and shout for help. If you break the glass and the fire or smoke rises up the face of the building you can not stop it getting into your room
If caught in smoke get down low as heat and smoke rise. It is cooler lower down and there is better air to breathe
Do not delay for people who will not evacuate ask them to leave if they will not, do not argue with them, look after yourself and leave
If you breathe in smoke go to Hospital and get checked out. Your bodies reaction is to flush fluids into the infected area to clean them, you may "Drown" in your sleep
